We are currently opening a new, 180,000 square-foot production facility in Rocky View County, Alberta – the first of its kind in the world. We are looking for committed and engaged Plant Operators in all areas of our facility to contribute to the safe and reliable operation of this unique and cutting-edge farm and production facility.

AREA RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

All Areas:

  • Strict adherence to health and safety policies
  • Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when completing duties and responsibilities
  • Daily cleaning of equipment and areas to maintain high sanitation standards
  • Accurate reporting and data collection to maintain production records
  • Light preventative maintenance duties

A100 Feedstock Receiving and Preparation:

  • Receive and offload delivery trucks using forklifts; accurate data recording of truck deliveries
  • Use of skid-steer to prepare and process recycled food inputs (produce, grains, liquids)
  • Managing feedstock material flow in tanks and silos
  • Able to perform physical requirements of the position, which includes standing, bending, pulling, lifting and pushing.
  • Best suited for a hard worker who enjoys a fast-paced environment and doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty

A200 Larvae Rearing:

  • Feeding and rearing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae using our proprietary technology, equipment and procedures
  • Learning and understanding the health and biological requirements of BSF larvae
  • Heavy use of computer software programs to track and organize production units
  • Best suited for an effective multitasker who is well organized, has strong computer skills and has an interest in biological processes and technology

A300 Product Processing:

  • Efficiently operate and monitor industrial processing equipment to ensure product meets company quality standards
  • Strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the quality of the product
  • Ensuring high sanitary and quality control standards are met
  • Use of forklift to organize and transport product within work area
  • Able to perform physical requirements of the position, which includes long periods of standing, bending, pulling, lifting and pushing
  • Best suited for a hard worker who enjoys a fast-paced environment and is committed to meeting high quality standards in the product.

A400 Hatchery and Breeding:

  • Learning and understanding the health and biological requirements of the adult BSF and eggs
  • Monitoring and ensuring biological requirements of the adult BSF are met
  • Careful attention to company protocols for predictable production flow
  • Use of forklift and pallet jack
  • Use of pressure washers, vacuums and other equipment to complete daily cleaning tasks
  • Best suited for a hard worker with high attention to detail who is interested in caring for the health of the adult flies and eggs

A500 Warehouse and Quality Control:

  • Bagging, storing and organization of finished product and inventory
  • Conducting quality control sampling and lab work (training provided as necessary)
  • Use of forklift to load finished products onto pallet racking and into delivery trucks
  • Ensuring high sanitary and quality control standards are met
  • Recording production data, shipping records, daily reports and other necessary data in adherence with company procedures
  • Best suited for a meticulous and detail-oriented individual who is comfortable both in the lab and on a forklift

A600 Incubation:

  • Learning and understanding the health and biological requirements of BSF larvae
  • Heavy use of forklift to organize products in the work area
  • Use of pressure washers, vacuums and other equipment to complete daily cleaning tasks
  • Best suited for an adept forklift driver with strong organizational skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong team player with good interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic
  • Fluent in English, with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with minimal supervision
  • Basic use and knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Outlook and MS Excel)
  • Ability to lift loads of up to 20 kg
  • Experience with industrial or farm equipment an asset
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Food manufacturing experience is an asset
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license

SCHEDULE:

  • The plant operates 6am to 12am, 7 days/week with morning, afternoon and evening shifts available depending on the area
  • Shifts are 8.5 hours, including two paid 15 min breaks and one unpaid 30 min break; 5 days/week – all schedules include shifts on Saturday, Sunday or both
  • Schedules are subject to change with advanced notice
